I have two chickens that are around 3 weeks old. one is a barred rock named rufus. the other is an americauna named beatrice.
they are both supposed to be female but it is not an 100% garuntee.i am starting to think my barred rock is male. please let me know what you think!

Beatrice is an Easter Egger, not sure of sex but looks roo-ish. I think you'll be able to tell better when she feathers out more. Easter Egger cockerels have more of a splotchy plumage while hens have more partridge coloration. The Barred Rock, I think, is a boy because of the lighter coloration. Females tend to have darker coloration than males.

Hens dont only come in a partiridge pattern, they just come in an over all uniform pattern, not splotchy like males.

This is what I meant by partridge pattern: (pullet)

And this is a cockerel: (notice splotchy coloration)

my ameracauna( or easter egger) the hatchery and the feed store called them americaunas. but anyway, Beatrice looks alot more like the partridge pattern, she( or he) has alot of polkadots .

They call them "Americanas", so they can get away with selling Easter Eggers, and people can't complain they weren't purebred Ameraucanas because they did not spell the breed name correctly - or so I'm lead to believe.

No hatchery or feed store will carry purebred Ameraucanas. You have to get those through a reputable breeder.

Yep the extremely consistent confusion both deliberate and non-deliberate is part of the reason I sold off all EE and true arauacanas. Just got so sick of so many mistaken 'experts' who won't budge even after admitting the araucanas look so different....

I agree the barred rock is probably male due to amount of whiteness. I think the EE is a female because it seems to be taking on red duckwing pattern- brown streaky back with a brown with salmon breast. None of the breast feathers are showing any black which indicates female on a red duckwing type coloration. I don't think she will look at all like the 'partridge' pattern shown above.
