What gender are my chicks?

It's hard to tell because the coloring of the feathers obscures the shape. The gold makes them look pointy, but they look roundish on the black edges. I had a hen that had a relatively strong and dark comb at a young age. The hackles on the GLW seem a bit roo-ish to me, but again, I'm distracted by the coloring.

There are several breeds that have rose combs and rose combs are relatively flat combs but at 5 weeks old that comb is extremely red. The EE, dark Brahma, and partridge Cochin all look to be pullets at this point though. It would be easier to tell though if you could get some good straight on profile pics.

Golden Laced Wyandottes have a different type of comb. It is a rose bomb. My chick's comb is pretty much flat in real life.

I know- I have a wyanotte myself. But that comb is WAY too big and pink at that age to be a pullet. If it were a pullet, it would have almost NO sign of a comb, just a tiny little yellow bump. You have a very pretty roo!

I'll just have to wait and see what it turns out to be. Sometimes chicks that are females have big combs, but not often.

with the age of the wyandotte its 110% a cockerel...cockerel hackles dont start to develop until the chicken is 8+ weeks old so using the hackles is out of the question. as for the legs those dont appear to be small legs but pretty good size legs, now some pullets do have large legs but no that often. as for the others those are all pullets
