What gender is my silkie?

Well I guess I will just have to wait for now. Haha. Right now I'm calling them Opal and Onyx. So any suggestions of names if Opal turns out to be a he?

I have a lot of silkies and really you can be surprised what they turn out to be... however, I think this one is a pullet. Couple reasons I think so- but first you said it challenged your cockerel, well they will do that when they are young even as hens- so although yes that is a male characteristic, when they are young the hens will face off as well.

What makes me think it is a hen though is the development of the waddles and the comb. The comb is very flat still, a cockerel's usually starts to rose a bit by that age, even if only slight. Also the waddles will drop more on the roos I have had. Additionally, the neck and head feathers appear to be more pullet-like. A roo by that age will have a few arrow feathers starting- in fact on your black one I can see those already.

So I'm going with a semi-expert, non-expert vote of Pullet.

I really hope so! Cuz I love them both, but can't keep 2 roos.
