What gender is this?

I'm starting to question the gender of this chook, its starting to behave much like a rooster! It's 6 months old, it has raised tail and yesterday I found it on top of one of my other chooks

holding it down and pecking at its neck

That is a hen - perhaps gender confused, but a hen nevertheless.

That's a classic red sex link hen. Same sex birds can sometimes mount each other as a social dominance thing. I had a neutered male dog that would happily jump on other dogs--male, female, neutered or not. It's not a sexual thing, just an "I'm boss of you" thing.

hen for sure.
Some dominant hens will mount others as a dominance thing, especially if there is no rooster present.

Is there anyway of stopping it from being so dominant?

no not really the only ting that i have found is to put rooster with them



p.s. red sex link roos are manly white

you could try isilation for a week or si. Then when it comes back there hould be a new head hen that is hopefully nicer and if all goes rigt it should end up at the bottom of the pecking irder being "new", but if it is realky assertive it will go right back to the top. So most likley no but it is worth a shot
