He's too light for a RIR rooster.

It is a red sexlink girl. I have two that look like that with combs just as large. Roo combs are usually thicker.

This is one of them as a young pullet. Her comb is huge now.

Either that, if it is a he, I would say a mix or poorly bred new hampshire red.


A body shot would be better to use as telling you what the gender and breed are.

Whoever thought hen was correct! I bought her as a baby with two EE's. They told me that she would be a buff orpington, but as you can see, she isn't. I still don't know what breed, but she is very sweet, and was actually the first of the 3 to start laying!

Yep. Then my first intuition was right. She's a red sexlink. No doubt about it now if she was the first to lay. As chicks they look like BO's so maybe they got mixed up. Red sexlink, shaver red, golden sexlink, red star... all the same.
