What got my hen?

There is a LOT of feathers where she must have been grabbed just outside the woods and a trail of feathers going through the woods about 50 feet, then nothing......she's just gone. This happened around noon to a big speckled sussex. None of the other chickens act like anything happened but we did hear a lot of crows making a lot of noise in that area. I wish we would have checked it out........they were probably fussing about whatever it was.

Hmm.. Well, if it were at dusk or sunset, I'd say fox or coon. However, since it happened during mid-day, I'd say some kind of dog or coyote.

Don't dogs generally leave the carcass? And kill as many as they can? I'm really wondering if it was a coyote. We have seen them here during the day before.

It sounds like a fox to me. They will most certainly attack during the day, especially if they are feeding kits.
