what got you started on raising chickens

I helped other with their chickens. Got my first taste of a real free range egg and swore I would get my own when we bougt our place. Well last year we did so now I have chickens.

When I moved the new land had a 12X10 raised metal coop and a 75X75 fenced in run built 30 years ago. A little fix up and add chickens.

A friend of my DD had to move to town and gave me her flock!

When I was about ten years old, my friend's mom raised a ton of chickens for eggs. I would go over to her house and play with them a bunch, and I grew fond of them. We went to a local feed store, who had some feral roosters they wanted out of there, so we decided to catch the roosters for fun. Every day after school we would go there for an hour or two with a big net and chase the roosters all over everywhere. It was so much fun! The last rooster we caught was a wily red bantam rooster, and when we finally caught him one day in the pouring rain, I fell in love with him and decided to keep him. From there, of course I needed some hens, and it all went downhill from there.
