My almost 3 year old BBW tom, Goose, has started limping and spending a lot of time in his pen with his bonded BBB hen. All my poultry are free range, and he usually spends time around the property or with my Blue slate tom. I checked out his foot today and it looks like the middle and scales are lifting. What caused this and how can I help? It’s also pretty swollen. Anything helps thank you so much.

I'll bet that's SLM, "scaly leg mites." I have never had turkeys, but presume they can get those the same as my silkies do. We go through this every two years with them.

One method is to smother them. That takes slathering their feet with vaseline (or something similar) three times per week, then repeating this in around 10 days.

The other is Ivermectin 5mg Pour-On drops on their neck. I'd have to get the dosage as my silkies take between 1-3 drops on their neck skin, dependent upon weight. This gets repeated in 10 days.

Both methods we've done, and done it at night while they're roosting.

Ivermectin dosage:
5mg Pour-On Ivermectin (topical only) is 1 mg/kg = 0.09 ml lb.
1 eyedropper drop is 0.05 ml
