I have no pictures, but here's the story. My husband and I were gone for a couple of days. We had family here to care for all of my animals. All was good. Everyone acting normally. We get home last night, and my son brings in one of my young hens. He said he almost fell over her and she didn't even move. She was just laying there. She was still alive and alert, could look around, but just kinda limp. Her head was hanging below her body while I was holding her. And I was HOLDING her. They never let me get that close. She wasn't fully mature yet...hadn't started laying. Well I took her into my bathroom, and try to stand her up. She couldn't stand. She could move her legs fine, so nothing was broken. It seemed to be a neurological issue. Which threw me off, as she was perfectly healthy the day before. I laid her in my bathtub with some blankets, and she was alert and looking around. I thought she would be fine, probably just got knocked in the head and was a little out of it. But, she was gone when I got up this morning. And had been for hours. I don't know what killed her, though. I mean, she was perfectly healthy and active. She had no signs of swelling, no bleeding. Her sinuses were clear. The only thing I can think of is a snake bite? My other ducks are just fine this morning, so I don't think she was poisoned. She and the others were always together everywhere they went. They stay, for the most part, in the large pen with a pond, but they do go through the fence sometimes to the neighboring pond, but always come back home. Our neighbors have never complained about our animals. So, anyway, I am so sad about this...I hatched her myself and raised her and her brother. Any ideas what happened??

Can't say for sure but living in Texas a snake bite could have done it. Especially having a pond where water moccasins might be hanging out. [not sure if you have them there]
Did you look her legs and feet over good for possibility of snake bite. face too.

Other thing makes me think Botulism with her neck being limp.

Very sorry for your loss. :(

That's just it....her neck wash't really limp. I mean, she was laying it forward when I was holding her, but when I laid her down in the tub, she was alert. Holding her head up and looking around. That's why I thought she would pull through. I didn't see any bite marks on her anywhere, but I couldn't bring myself to look that closely. I know...dumb move on my part. But, yeah we have water moccasin and copperhead here, plus some grass snakes and king snakes (which I know the last two aren't venomous).
