are you talking about the crest? it’s a genetic issue, but he can totally live a normal life.

just never breed him because crested duckling tends to have issues

Yes looks like he is a crested. Just like Duck Mommy said it's a genetic flaw, most ducklings pass away who have it. Your boy should be fine though. My male Pekin is a crested and is 3 years old now

Look's more like a Rouen, then a Mallard too.
