So 3 weeks ago we hatched our first incubator chicks. The last one had trouble hatching due to low humidity and had a folded foot that I fixed. The other day when I was checking on them my little runt is now very unstable and taking headers all over the place,it's like someone wacked him in the head with a brick. I have no clue what happened to it it was fine one day and now it's like some nuerological disorder suddenly popped up.Out of the 4 frizzle chickies it's the only white one that's frizzled and I don't want to lose it. It's a bit smaller than the other 3 but it's been growing just fine. I just don't understand what the heck happened to it,now I'm expecting that it'll die.

Have any of you had this happen?

possibly the runt had some non visible deformity that's causing it not to develop right? Sometimes I think there's just no way to tell. What interventions have you done for it so far?

I haven't done anything really. I foregot to mention that when it hatched I noticed a bubble like bump on it's shoulder that I'm wondering if that could cause anything like pinching off a nerve??
I also wonder if it may have been smothered one nite and has brain damage, but it's still wanting to eat and drink. It'll flap around the brooder & get to the food & water, but after a sip or two it'll goto sleep rite there. I've notice that it's foot is curled up when resting and the legs just vibrate. When I let go of it it's head & chest take him down and it falls over on it's side. It's still thriving but it's sad to watch and I don't know what to do other than possibly having to kill it. I don't think it's something that's gonna get better and I don't know what happened, he was totally fine until last wednesday.

sorry, its doesn't sound good.

I could be a heart deformity? As the chick grows the heart may not be able to support the growing body? I really don't know. You said it was "thriving" but if its unable to stand up and wobbly, I wouldn't consider that exactly thriving.

If it were mine, I'd do exactly what you're doing. Give it good care, sit back and see what happens. I guess some would cull, but if they are just for pets, why not let it be.
