OMG-- I thought this would NEVER happen. I don't just have ONE broody! I have TWO!!!
Long story short, I found my RIR sitting on a bunch of eggs. I thought I'd move her to another box outside the main pen with the eggs and she pretty much didn't "get" it. So, I put her back and put the eggs there and she settled on them. A little while later, she was off the eggs and another hen, a BRxBO was setting on the eggs and giving me the stink eye. She had about a dozen there, so I tried moving some a bit more under her and she pecked nastily at me. I had to use a broom handle to move the eggs and she went after that too.
So now the greedy thing has the eggs completely covered. It's actually pretty funny to see.
