If my friend has a chicken who is already showing signs of pox and I vaccinate her..... what will happen?

What if I vaccinate a chicken that already has pox and is showing no signs?

they are immune after getting them~

If it has it and you vaccinated her, i would say you wasted a shot

The APA has some helpfull articles on vaccines.
http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/health1.htm

If you read the above link it states not to vaccinate sick birds unless they have
Fowl Pox or LT.
It also says that the vaccine can be used as a treatment during an outbreak.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much. I think my friend might be absolutely right in wanting to vaccinate her sick birds. She has already lost 3 or 4 and she may actually have the wet pox. It is so hard to make the right decision for your birds and we all just do the best that we can.

This link helped a lot. Thanks again. It will give my friend a glimmer of hope!

You can ask a vet, but Pete Brown has many years of knowledge about chickens and health related issues. Without fairly convincing data to the contrary I would trust what he says.

For posterity, Pete Brown is the one who says that vaccinating sick chickens will likely kill them.

Thanks, Sonoran Silkies!
