My neighbor had Golden Comets (Leghorn x RIR), she has 10 hens and 1 roo. She was curious as to what would happen if they were to breed.

I know they are hybrids and won't "breed true" but what does happen? What color are the pullets/cockerels? What egg-laying ability do they display? (I know they won't lay like a true Gold Comet). I assume they wouldn't make good meat birds.

We were just curious. Thanks.

I would expect similar egg laying to their parents. There would be no way to tell gender of chicks based upon colour--you'll need to wait until they display other characteristics indicative of gender.

A friend of mine had some Red Stars and hatched one of the eggs and it was one of the UGLIEST chickens I have ever seen!!! It was a rooster so I can't say about the egg laying. He was mean though, I do know that.

One would guess, but all the literature says that because they are hybrids, the phenomenal egg-laying ability doesn't pass on.
