what happens to eggs if we don't pick them up?

i am not talking about eggs that will hatch, but about eggs we eat, if we just leave them.. will the chicken and roosters eat them? just curious, thanks

In my coop, they tend to get knocked around and broken if we miss a day. They will definitely eat an egg that has gotten accidentally broken. Some feel this can lead to true egg eating, where they purposefully break eggs to eat the inside.
