I'd pay $1,500 for my sheepadoodle, if i wanted one badly enough. (actually i think they are 1,300)
WHo cares, its my business. Many people pay that for their "pure" dogs. Its still a DOG.

They are the fools if they think papers make it otherwise.
So actually, i'm not the fool. I'm the one that knows i'm just buying a DOG. It is what is is.. a dog.

But yes, i agree, if you think some papers makes your mutt dog pure... well then.. not much you can do for those folks.

Its still rude to call people suckers just because they dont think like you do... just my opinion.

I hear you. My mom would die if she knew how much my dogs cost. But, with that $$ comes a lifetime of work from my breeder. Titling, health testing, etc and then a lifetime of support. I talk to him at least a few times a week. I spent 3years interviewing breeders and then another year waiting for the right dog to come along. I don't think my mom has ever paid for a dog in her life. Well, we did get a pup from the pound once, I think that was $20.

I'm not breeding yet. I hope to, some day. Right now I'm just learning from my breeder and others that I respect. I just bought my first dog that might have breeding potential. He has a long way to go before I know if he will.

It's amazing the amount of research that I've done so far. That's part of what I love, though. Learning all that I can and doing the work.

I think dogs are an awful lot more expensive in the last 10 years. A pet pup from a breeder can be up to a thousand dollars. I used to buy pet pups for 400 dollars.

I think what's happened is that more people are getting unregistered, or non AKC breeds.

One thing I don't really think has changed, but it just seems like I am seeing more breeders like this these days - I don't really think it's changed, and that this kind has always been around-

The type of breeder that doesn't cull properly, and that breeds two dogs together that are of poor quality and then sells the pups as if they're much higher quality than they are.

I went to one breeder, she tried to sell me a pup, then tried to GIVE me the pup's sire, so I know there are some serious problems with that sire, and she's trying to sell me a pet quality pup from that sire for 700 dollars, a pup that appears to not have anything like the temperament she said he had, before we traveled 800 miles to come look at the pup. Come on, should you have bred that litter????

I don't know about the 'designer dog' flap. They can be expensive, that's true.

And it is kind of unfair o them to charge double or triple what a purebred pup would be.

But for example, I saw a Golden Retriever-Poodle cross today and it looked like a really nice dog. THe owner seemed to really dote on the dog and it was well trained and well cared for and very nicely groomed.

Given how many dogs aren't well trained and cared for, I'm not sure I really can complain about that 'Golden-Doodle'. IF these people who are buying these dogs are taking good care of them, and like them, I'm not really sure there is a problem.

There is a similar feeling about Gypsy Vanner horses, that sell for fifty or a hundred dollars in Ireland and five figures here. But if people like them and care for them, I can't complain about them buying them. Their conformation or gaits might not be suitable for what I do, but not everyone wants to do with their horse what I do.

Actually hamsters have changed over the years. They come in different colors now. Black was a big deal when they first started showing up in litters. Gerbils come in black now too along with other colors.
I agree that cats have stayed about the same. At least the non registered mixed cats.
