I would like to add about 8 new chicks to our flock. We currently have 9 but some of our gals are 3 years old at this point (although we are still getting about 5 eggs / day).
I have been looking online trying to find a hatchery or breeder. I would like heritage breeds that are good layers and active foragers. Our chickens free-range over a couple acres (with a livestock guardian dog since we also have goats).
I would love some advice on hatcheries or breeders. I am not looking to spend a lot of money and the shipping fees seem rather expensive. The local feed supply store sell day-old chicks year round ... but I'm not sure I want the breeds they sell.. We have our chickens for eggs for our family and friends and as pets.
I would also welcome suggestions on heritage breeds that you recommend.
