Best timing for adding to my mini-flock - in 2 months vs next year

Our backyard has gone sadly to heck, especially after Helene, so we’re doing a bunch of re-landscaping. Chickens >>>> Bobcat or tiller in a small space, any day!

So I think I've cooled my jets a bit, making myself remember that the original plan was 3 for year 1 and then 2 each for years 2 and 3, and then see where we are. I'm 70, so if I wind up hanging out in another five years with geriatric hens, I'll be in good company.

Plan sounds good. Even if not for eggs, waiting until next year (or a year after) for new additions lets you reevaluate what breeds you might want, or to make changes/improvements if needed to make chicken keeping easier for you.

If any mice get in, I fully expect the girls to take care of them promptly! Unlike our grossly incompetent cat.
