I want to start raising Khaki Campbells and want to invest in the most productive ones that I can, to start a good line. Any suggestions?
Thanks!! Corrie

I have also wondered this. I have 5 campbells. They are only a month old. I got mine from Rural King, but they came from Cackle. I have heard for egg laying you should get regular utility and not show breed. Also I read for best laying Mrs. Campbell separated her ducks individually at night with each in a separate pen. This is too much trouble for me. I hope you get an answer to this question. I cannot tell you the best layers but the best price I have seen for straight run is from Schlecht hatchery. They are $2.50 unsexed and they do not sex their birds so you would not be getting all drakes.

Try Metzer. I know he goes through his laying bird stock on a regular basis and weeds out those hens that are not producing. He even wrote a blog about it. The goal is to get tons of eggs and don't feed birds that are not producing. It's a money question to him and he was able to reduce the feed bill by 57% when he did his clean up. This results in selective breeding and he ends up with more and more high quantity egg laying birds as this trait will be passed on to about 1/3 of the offspring. You continue doing this selection and you will end up with very good egg layers. Below are the two blog articles talking about it. Quite interresting.

Of course, you can never go wrong ordering from Holderread, but he is probably sold out on khakis for this season. He breeds for egg production as well as breed characteristics, and is well known for having the best quality in the nation of any large breeder.

But if all you care about is production and you need them this season, sounds like Metzer's a good choice. Have fun!
