What have you used instead of a killing cone?

x2, basically... I don't worry about collecting the blood, I just give the area a quick spray with the hose usually so it soaks into the ground, then forget about it... If you collect the blood in something, that's just another thing you have to wash or throw away when you're done...

Actually now though, unless it's an old rooster, usually I dislocate the neck with the "English Method," so there is no blood spraying and dripping around, instead it collects and coagulates in the top of the neck where you clean it away later when you clean up the carcass. Very civilized!

I need to collect the blood because I a) have dogs that run around my back yard and b) Live in the middle of a subdivision of an upscale city so... I need to try to keep my butchering as neat as possible. I just put on medical gloves and scrape the shavings into a yard bag and then rinse the bucket with a hose. It doesn't seem like that much more work.

We were thinking something along this line... We normally don't buy that big of a bottle or jug for Vinegar though, lol. Vinegar is a nice to have for all kinds of things though so we may check that out. We really need to start processing some chickens tomorrow....
