Nah, the avatar is my precious Portia that passed away at age 14 back in 2006. She was a dear, sweet thing that helped me through myriad disturbances in my life. She was also an alpha dog extraordinaire who would have hunted every chicken til there were no more; she kept our previous yard free of all groundhogs and any other vermin that crossed the property line.
My current bone buring companion, Junebug, is a shepard, beagle mix who just likes to herd the flock around the yard when she feels it's appropriate. I also have a retired greyhound who is king of the couch potatoes & has absolutely zero prey drive. All of my dogs are, and always have been special needs rescues that were either up for euthanizing or returned due to behavior concerns in their previous home(s). Junebug was an emaciated stray at the humane society...she is, to say the least, no longer emaciated!
For fun, here's a pic of Junebug helping build the coop
And Hank showing everyone what retirement really means
