What herb is this???

I planted this & threw away the package & did not put up a marker as to what it was. Now I am at a loss as to what this could be. I believe its an herb. But, as to which one I do not know. Anyone out there know?

That looks like thistle to me.

it looks like holy or blessed thistle, those things get huge. we've got lots of those and a more common, smaller variety in NJ. bees/bugs like them but they can be seriously invasive.
