She is such a SWEETHEART! No has claimed her, and so we have decided to keep her! She has a shaved spot on her back, it looks like someone must have removed some matting at some point.

ETA: Any vets out there that want to guess at her age based on those teeth?

She is ADORABLE. I love bernards. Wish I could have one, but the Texas heat would kill her I belileve.

We named her Katy. (for the Katy on here...she loves and wants a St. Bernard)

For those that have them....do you shave yours in the summer time? We get pretty warm here, and she is an indoor dog, but she likes the outdoors too.

Thanks!

Hi! No i dont shave mine...
If you shave them you have to be very careful about sun and stuff...
They actually say to not shave them in the summer... (sometimes i do have his fur thinned out though..)
BUT.. you have to be VERY careful in the heat with them....
they can overheat very easily... make sure they have shade and cool water in the summer time... (thats VERY important... they have to have a place out of the sun to lay down..mine sleep under my porch...)
mine dosent go outside in too hot or too humid weather... he just goes out to potty and back inside..
They sure love the snow though...

Also..beware of bloat with them... I know someone that lost 2 of her Saints to bloat...

Ok, so no shaving. We always have water out for her. She doesn't stay out long, usually just 20 or so minutes, and then she will bark to say "I'm ready to come in now." There is shade in the yard, different spots throughout the day. Since her fur is so long, I think I will try to thin it some.

Bloat? I will have to check on that, I have no idea what it is.

Thanks for all your answers.

What a darlin!

I'm not a vet, just a dork who works with dogs, but the clean and tartar-free teeth would indicate youth. Say less than 2 or so, depending on her diet.

Congrats on Katy.
Yeah, No shaving. The fur helps protect them from the sun. Ever reach under a hairy dog and feel how cool it is compared to the top fur?
I would say 2-3 years old
