I have noticed over the last ten years a phenomena that concerns me. When I was a youngun we all watched the same few channels and read the same few newspapers. Big media controlled most of the news and this was not necessarily a good thing.
Along came the Wild Wild West internet and everything changed.....
Suddenly we could get news from all over the place and all kinds of people! Some of it was junk but hey it was different from MSM.
But, now I see that people have fallen into the trap

You can choose your newspaper feed based on your interests and likes, you can choose your TV channels based on the same criteria, radio and internet all can be chosen. If you plan it right, you may NEVER have to hear any point of view that differs from your own!!

I genuinely think this is part of what is aggravating the "divide" issue as people become convinced that "everyone" thinks as they do, and are shocked when they discover that they don't!

So when DH says, "You're addicted to chickens!"
I say, "No I am addicted to the forum!!!" There are people here from all over the place, with every different perspective you can think of!!! Yet, for the most part the crowd remains respectful, and the omnipresent moderators do an excellent job of balancing free speech with civility!
I may be shocked at people's opinions and offended or even aggravated! But, at least I am hearing them! And I couldn't be happier!!
