Well, I just ordered them online from murray mcmurray hatchery. I don't really have much use for hens, I don't collect the eggs. But I need to keep them around to settle the roos down, and also so people don't get the wrong impression about what I'm raising these birds for.

edit: if you guys are wondering what I'm using for a brooder..I use kiddie pools and I keep them in the house. There is going to be a kiddie pool in every room of my house, lol.

They won't be here for awhile, but here's what I bought:

Chickens

100 chicks from the all cockerels heavy assortment
25 black jersey giants (cockerels)
25 white jersey giants (cockerels)
25 marans (straight run)
25 easter egg chickens (pullets)
25 of the rainbow layers assortment (pullets..duh)
25 of the rarest of rare assortment (straight run)
25 sumatras (straight run)
25 buff orpingtons (straight run)

Turkeys

20 straight run turkey assortment

Geese

20 straight run from the fancy goose package

she raises them for animal food

yea. my reptiles are eating up a storm, I have less than 100 birds left from last year. and more of those will be slaghtered tomarrow, I'm in the mood for some chicken myself, lately.

Well if you look at that way, its a small number compare of what they feed chickens to their reptiles and snakes at the zoo...thousands of lbs of chicken I bet ya! That number of chickens Croc girl is feeding is small so its a problem at all. Heck I woudl love to send her some of my culled roos if I had someone like her needing roosters! Yay!

Wow..I never thought of it that way. Cool! I can use that one next time PETA comes a-knocking on my front door. Thanks, ewesheep!

Question: if they're all going to be food and you don't raise any for eggs, then why do you care what breeds they are? Why pay more for certain breeds, like the rarest of the rare assortment? That list really makes no sense to me with the situation you describe.
