Did you have a mental concept of what raising chickens would be like, before you got them? I know I did! Here's a few misconceptions (real or imagined) that I think people might have about raising chickens, and the reality. Well, not the reality for everyone; some people have the resources, time and self-discipline to keep the reality of their chicken life closely matching their ideal. Some of us don't! The ideal coop I thought I'd have:
What I ended up with:

How I imagined the inside of my coop:
What it's really like inside:

How I pictured my chickens enjoying their run:
What my chickens really do after rainy days:

And, ohhhh the eggs I will enjoy collecting!
What I sometimes bring in, especially if it's been wet outside!

And fluffy little newborn chicks!
They're still cute hatching, even if they ARE a little gooey...

All my roosters and hens will be one big happy family
Imagine my disappointment when I found they don't always get along!

Ah well, at least the boys will be loving mates to their hens, right?
Oh, the girls do get plenty of lovin', alright!
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
They'll be great in my garden to pick off bugs and weeds, hooray!
Unfortunately, they took all the veggies, too.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Still, I'll love them regardless. And we'll enjoy many happy hours cuddling!
..... That's if I can catch them!
Of if they don't catch me first!!!!

I hope you've enjoyed my little trip down chicken lane. Please add your own photos of what chicken life is REALLY like! And if I can get some good shots of my own flock showing you their real life, I'll post those too.
