In August husband leaves to work out of town for 3 months. I work full time & the girls lay throughout the day. We get two eggs in the morning before work then three to four more until around 6:00pm. Is it OK if these eggs stay in the coop all day when its so hot? Sometimes when I collect them they are very warm to the touch.

Thanks for your help

They should be fine for a short time at that temp. I would be more worried about fertile eggs starting to develop than spoilage. Do you have a roo?

I do this, too. And it gets up to 120 here. I check as often as possible, but sometimes an egg has been out there all day. I have never noticed a problem with the freshness of the eggs, or developing embryos, and we have roosters. Now if I found eggs in a new place and didn't know how long they'd been there,

Yes I have one roo with 10 hens. He doesn't seem to be to aggressive with girls - he is a Lakenvalder and only 3 pounds and most of the girls are bigger than him. He seems to leave them alone for the most part, but then I'm not out there all day.

I'll collect eggs before going to work and as soon as I get home at 5:30pm. They laid eggs at about 1:30 and 3:00 today so a few hours sounds like it won't be a problem.

Thanks for all your responses.

Same here - I'm in Texas with 100+ temps, and we collect eggs in the evening (or sometimes the next morning). They're always fine. Sometimes I find them to be very warm to the touch, but it's usually because they just came out.
