what if I get unvaccinated chicks???

i would agree here 100%, we dont vaccinate anyone or anything at my house, and weve done TONS of research on the subject. i have 1 child who nearly died of an innoculation for pertussis, after that i did my homework, and no more vaccines.
i dont vaccinate animals because i want healthy disease resistant birds, and truly i see no need for it. beef with hormones or steroids or antibiotics, and i dont want birds with unnatural things injected into their bodies, that may or may not do any good, and may or maynot taint the animal.

I think that is great that you don't vaccinate, and haven't had to deal with any major diseases with your chickens. I agree that the more natural things are, the better. Yes, chickens, along with everything else, die. I realize that. Unfortunately it is something that I have had to deal with WAY too often. I have, and have had, many animals of different species over the years. I am not naive to the fact that eventually their time will either run out or be cut short. I live in the country, surrounded by forest. So I also understand the dangers that await any one of my smaller pets that happens to be outside at the wrong time, though I do everything in my power to prevent this. I have lost animals to predators, cancer and other diseases. (Just had to put my 8 year old house bunny down today.)

That is just part of life, I know. However, knowing I did everything I could to make sure they are healthy and happy while here with me, until their was nothing more I can do, makes it easier for me to sleep at night. To me, this includes giving vaccines. I understand that a "Marek's" vaccine is only going to protect my chicks from getting Marek's disease, nothing else. I don't expect a vaccination to solve everything that might come their way, nor do I expect my chicks to be resistant to every and all diseases. I know that with every animal comes a chance of illness. However, if I can prevent a disease that is proven to be present in my area, than I feel it is my obligation as a pet owner to do so. Not to mention that if I allow my chicks to become contaminated, I risk allowing other baby chicks in the area to become contaminated as well. Marek's disease has been proven to be transmittable through dander, that can be displaced by wind. I completely respect each individual's take on this matter. I know this is a matter of personal opinion. That is why it is so nice to have this forum, to be able to hear so many different sides of an issue. I'm not saying that vaccinating chicks is what I feel everyone should do. I'm saying it is what I feel I should do, especially after finding out Marek's IS in my area.

Sorry if it sounded like I was on my soap box.
