I wouldn't have chosen to have one chick but that's what I had, one of my customers found a day old chick in his yard and brought it to me, I did not have any chickens at the time and never rasied a baby, but I took her in and set her up in a bird cage in my house. She was great, we held her a lot, my dogs loved her and she grew up being a great house chicken (still is) . I gave her a stuffed bird which she still has to this day and it is Bald..ha...After a few yrs I sent for eggs on ebay which she sat on and I ended up with silkie babies and She Loved her babies. When they all went out into the coop she was miserable out there, loves it during the day but late aft she would be at the back door looking in the glass waiting to come back in to her cage. So now I have several more chickens out there and she still wants to be with us. She was raised with chihuahuas and I swear she thinks she is one. I think as long as you pay attention to an only chick there is No prob. She never cried and spend quite a bit of time in her cage and I had no probs. She is by far the friendliest chicken Ive ever met, it makes a huge difference when they grow up with other chickens verses people, I guess they imprint in the beginning. She is a little bantam and when I gather eggs to be hatched I give them to her and she LOVES sitting and raising babies (in here of course)
