I am in the Mid-West, and as you may know, we are having a ton of storms here! What do I do for my incubator if the power goes out? It is probably on here somewhere, but thanks to our storms, our internet is too slow to take the time to look through all of the posts when I search for it to find a good answer.

My back up plan is a surge protector that has a battery in it. When the power goes off, push a button and bam! Power again!

Or hot hands help the loss of temperature.

I just told DH tonight to please make sure that the generator is ready "just in case".

Another plan would be an inverter plugged into a vehicle outlet.

Fingers crossed that we don't need a plan B or plan C.

I have the inverter for the car plug, but no car at night so that would only help me 50% of the time.

What about putting a blanket over the incubator to help keep the heat in? Or would that restrict air flow too much? I would also like to know where you get a surge protector with a battery.....

The only choices i can think of is a generator, or a few deep cycle batteries and invertor.

Unless you expect the power to be out for more than 24 hours just open the incubator an let the eggs cool an go dormant. Battery backup serge protector/power supplys wont last long enough to matter. Power inverters in cars or generators are worth having if you have long outages. All the methods of trying to keep heat in do more harm than good.

I was also worried about this last for I also live in the mid west and the storms were bad. I was luck and if my power did go out it was just for a few minutes or I just did not know for I was sleeping. I know my phone lines are down. I am planing on getting something that will help since my hatching time is from aobut 1st of March to the 1st of July for then it gets to cold out in the brooder for the little ones. This the time where we have all our bad storms.

if you had gas stove or BBQ ...THEN... you could always boil some water and use Hot Water bottles cover with a Blanket? ..that's what I'd do (without generator, without inverter..etc.etc.) Should keep Warm for Hours!! cheers
