What in carnation is this bug??? Pic included!

I am hunting Japanese Beetles now. There aren't that many, which means either they're just starting to emerge, or I hunted them to near extinction last summer.

The chickens, especially one in particular, know what it means when I say, "Bugs!"

How about this one. In the first picture you can see it above the Japanese beetle which shows how huge it is.

When I see those click beetles I always have to pick them up and make them click . We have them in Ohio .

It's an Eastern Eyed Click Beetle.
They are not dangerous to your flock.
It eats nectar and plant juice.

Played with many of these! We used to put them on their backs and watch them click and flip back over! Good times. Haven't seen one in a few years!

My chickens never met a beetle they didn't love to eat.

When my husband and I split wood we sometimes expose these huge grubs that are as big as my thumb. They fight over those. Tomato worms? Beat em to death, swallow them down.

Seems like the more they make me shudder the more tasty they are to the chickens.
