The larger one is a Jumbo. The smaller one not sure; but It is the same size and shape as my Metzer white layers; except mine have pink bills. Competing hatcheries carry these. If it lays 300 eggs in a year that is what it is. Also could be a mutt. Whatever it is its stark white instead of cream coloured like a true Pekin.

Okay, so where can I get a Jumbo Pekin? My daughter is planning on ordering two more females in Feb anyway, jumbos would be very cool! I've never seen them. She was going to order from Ideal or Metzer depending on if she's getting any chicks with them or not.

Metzer has some available until January 7th. Then they won't be available again until March. Many other hatcheries out there carry them.

I dont think you will have to get rid of the male.. well it depends on if the males fight... but other than that I dont see why you would have to get rid of him

I personally would go with Metzer. I noticed a big difference in the health and how active their ducks were compared to Ideal. However, it does appear from all the comments that they did send me a Jumbo Pekin even though I ordered a "regular" Pekin. LOL

I bought mine at a feed store that got them from Ideal.They had a lot of issues with there spine been crooked,one had no tail to develope as an adult.Poor quality ducks to say the least.
Now that been said I had gotten some from them a couple years earlier that were great.Big beautiful pekin but not this go around.Their mallards are doing great havent had any problems from them.Maybe this was a bad batch since the first were so wonderful.

So, thought I would give an update here... they are both definitely females!! Yay - I didn't want to have to get rid of one of them if it was a male as I already have a male Rouen. They are both quacking like females now, although it took the larger one a lot longer to get as vocal as the smaller one. So, it's either one of two things...
1. I have 1 Jumbo Pekin (creamy white) and one regular Pekin
2. I have 1 regular Pekin and the smaller one is a cross of a Pekin and something else as she is considerably smaller, light, and really white

Who knows if I'll ever know for sure... : )

Just thought I would add a comment to be fair to Ideal... the chicks they sent me were all great! Just had issues with the ducks so don't know that I would order ducks from them again.

Thanks guys. After looking at the Jumbos it looks like we'll probably stick with the regular ones. They are my daughter's and she might want to show them at some point (her current Pekins both got blue ribbons at the county fair and she one first in showmanship with her drake.) and we have them for bug control, entertainment, and eggs, so I don't think there would be an advantage to jumbos since we aren't going to eat them!

It's also good to know that Metzer is better. It's also much closer to us which is probably better for the little guys too. We're planning on ordering in Feb.
