What in the laying world could this be?

We have 4 Cucko Maran females that are less than a year old and have just started laying eggs about a month ago. In fact, we are not sure that all are actually laying yet. Yesterday, I was checking for eggs in the nesting box but found this in the hay that lines the bottom of their coop. Just to be clear, every normal egg we have found was in the nesting box but this "egg" was just in the bottom of the coop in the hay along with chicken poop. I have no idea which chicken laid this "egg". I've done a little research to find "lash eggs" but this really doesn't fit that description. This looks like a reddish sheath of skin that surrounds the hard reddish egg. I have not cracked open the egg yet to see it's contents.

Any ideas on what this could be? Thank you in advance for your help.

I agree with @Eggcessive. If it's a new layer then hopefully just a glitch and she will settle into normal laying with some time. If everyone is acting OK, I would just keep an eye on them, hopefully it won't be a repeat thing. I have gotten an egg inside of an egg before, even a large one once. The outside egg was enormous.

Thank you all for your replies. Turns out it is a normal egg under the sheath and color. We will be monitoring her closely. Bottom line is I still have no idea. Here are the pics of me opening the egg.

Thanks again!
