So I ordered 10 polish female chicks from tractor supply. 2 died on arrival as they have grown they are clearly not all polish. I think the ones picture are appenzeller? How can I tell Male from female?

The second bird looks like a silver laced polish, the first I'm not sure, give it time. Like most breeds you keep an eye out for red combs by 6-8 weeks which generally means boys.

First definitely looks like an Appenzeller Spitzhauben. Second looks polish.
I don't know how to tell gender on the Spitzhauben. Polish is hard to tell from that angle.

I am a total newbie to chickens. Do u think the 2nd one is a polish because the mohawk extends down the neck?

Not necessarily. I have a Spitzhauben with a large-ish crest too.

The polish looks like my silver laced by pattern, crest, and body-type.
