My three girls are in a large chicken tractor and hadn't been sleeping on their roost. They wanted to perch on the high sides of their nesting boxes and would then poo into the nesting box during the night. That meant I was cleaning out boxes first thing in the morning so as to not have messy eggs.
Obviously, the problem was due to a flaw in the design of the chicken tractor so we fixed it yesterday. We raised the roost a few inches and then removed the sides from the nesting boxes so that there was nothing there for them to perch on. I decided to remove one of the nesting boxes as they all use the same box and it would give them more interior room and make clean up easier for me.
WHOA! They do NOT like having the furniture moved! I could hear them fussing as I went to the tractor to open their door this morning. The girls pretty much ignored their feed first thing and are still in the tractor, re-arranging the straw in the one nest and "cussing" to beat the band. It's really obvious that they're mad at me for messing with their house!
Just hope they don't punish me by withholding eggs!
