What is a chicken saddle used for, please?

I first heard of those a couple of weeks ago myself. I got a visual of a small chicken with a saddle and a little cowboy hat. I laughed so hard I almost spit out what I was drinking. (SODA!) So I had to ask and the lady sent link.

I got a hen from a neighbor that was so badly de-feathered that she looked absolutley naked. Her feathers grew back. Now she is my best layer. But my roo is super amorous and she was getting a bald spot on her back again. So I had to put a saddle on her.

Cool, I thought it was a Halloween costume or décor for the chicken, I didn't know that it actually had a job. I told my dad and he said " I'm not buying a Halloween costume for a chicken!" I have 1 question. What if you don't have an over amorous rooster or a rooster at all, should I still buy one?
