I wasn't sure which area to ask this question, but since it's about chicks, I thought I would try here first, lol. I am looking to get another incubator, same as the one I already have, because I am having absolutely NO luck with the one I currently have, so I thought I would invest in a new model, unused, with a fan and turner already in it. I currently have a HovaBator still air incubator, but off all the incubating I've done since I got it, I have gotten one chick. One lonely, single chick, and I've set probably near a hundred eggs in it. I bought a new thermometer for it and I have eggs in it now, but then my retarded cat somehow unplugged it, and while it wasn't off that long, it was off long enough for the temp to drop twenty degrees. If anything in there hatches, it will be a miracle. We turn the eggs, keep the water levels as up as possible, and keep the temp steady, but I still get nothing. I'm worried cause I have sebright and d'uccle eggs in there now, and I don't want to lose them. I also have button quail and some mutt eggs in there too. The mutt eggs were a gamble. I didn't think they were all fertilized, and it would seem that I am right, but I was kinda just checking my fertility to see if my roo was doing his job or not, lol. Guess he has too many ladies to try to satisfy! I am planning to set more eggs in the next few days, but I am loath to set them in this particular bator unless I absolutely have to. So, the incubator I am looking at is $114.99 and comes with a digital thermostat and hygrometer, a fan, and an automatic egg turner. What I am wondering is, is that a good price? What is the usual price for a still air with all of that included? Could someone give me a ballpark figure? Thank you everyone. I just want to get some GOOD hatches for once! Oh, and for the record, the heating wafer in my current incubator is working fine, I know cause I've burned myself on it more than once, lol!

Anyone? I want to order the new incubator, but not if it's a bad price. Is $114.99 (doesn't include shipping of $18) a good price?

still air is the hardest incubator to use and get good hatches out of, you do not say what brand of incubator you looking at, will the new one have a fan? the digital thermostat is a great idea, how many eggs will you be able to get in it?

Check your local craigslist first for a used one. I got my 1602N Hova bator for $40.00. Was used only once by the original owner. My first hatch netted 13 out of 19. Good luck.

About a month ago I bought a HovaBator 1602N with an egg turner INCLUDED + shipping for total pmt of $89.88 off of eBay. The seller was discountpetsupply or discountpetsupplies (I think) out of Georgia. I just completed my first hatch with 30 of 34 eggs hatching. I kept the temp right at 100 degrees, and did NOT use a hygrometer, but just followed the manufacturers directions exactly. Love it!

You should still be able to find this deal...it was a Buy It Now offer.

For that much you can get a Brinsea Octagon ECO and not have to worry about you temperatures spiking and killing the eggs. Its very easy to use, you can turn it from the outside (you turn the whole incubator), it washes up quickly and easily and is cheaper than that still air. Still air incubators are really hard to balance.

The new one would be a HovaBator too. It would have the fan AND egg turner, and with the egg turner in it, it could hold 41 eggs.

If it has a fan, then it isn't a still air incubator.

If you're looking at the hovabator 1588 then that is a good deal.

I looked up that incubator. The ad on their website doesn't say if it has an egg turner. Would I have to open the lid and turn? The explanation is a little vague.
