What is a good size for nesting boxes?

Is 11 1/4" square an ok size for inside of nesting boxes?

It is good. I did 12 X 12 and it works fine. You only need one nest for every 4 or 5 chooks. Some people do 14 x 14. Mine are not covered, but they do have OSB dividers between each nest. The two in the corners are the most popular tho and they do have a roost and large poop board overhead too, so that may be why they are the most popular nests. Have seen my chooks wait to get those nests instead of taking one of the ten other ones that are empty.
