What is a Moderator

I have been reading a lot about how to use this forum and the word Moderator keeps coming up. What is it?

Moderators are the volunteers (selected by BYC administration) to "police" the forum to weed out problem posts, or to assist others with forum problems. This is a family friendly forum and they work very hard to keep it that way. They also ban spammers.

I'm a pretty new one, not from the old forum; BYC has grown tremendously the last few years.
