What is a pan fry chick?

Bought 3 unknown black chicks. One for sure is a barred rock, one is black and orange and the other is black and white.
The other day I went in to a store having chick days and lo and behold they had a run of chicks that looked just like Elizibeth Taylor our little black and white chick. Named due to looking like she has mascara on her eyes.
So is there a breed called pan fry? I'm confused as she was sold as a laying chicken?????? Also forgot to add that she is the only one of 12 chicks with feathers on her feet.

I believe you mean "fry pan" and not "pan fry". It's not a breed, more of a description for a smaller bird that will be good for frying. They're typically laying or dual-purpose breeds.

Some feather-legged breeds that come in black varieties are Silkies, Cochins, Marans, and Langshans.

Thank you Bramblefir. I saw some in a pen for sale at chick days and have one just like those. She is a little smaller than the other birds I got but is real sweet. She does have feathers on her legs and toes also. So what does that mean? Anything? Or like you
Stated she could be anyone of those you mentioned? I really like her temperment and curiosity. She a very gentile bird so far. I love the feathers on her legs and feet!
Im new to this so forgive me for getting the name wrong but thank you for setting me straight. lol

I got two of the pan fry chicks from an orchelins in ar, and was told that they are simply extras of almost any breed the hatchery has, grouped together randomly and sold at a discounted price. The two I got are both easter egger pullets, so don't fret yet, they're not necessarily all boys! :)

Thanks!
I see your links. But the terminology is backwards. The op said they got "pan fry" chicks. I'd be curious to know if it was a chain store or local, but my orechlins sells "pan fry" and they are not only roosters, I forgot that I also had a female barred rock chick from that lot, with my EE pullets, who didn't make it. It seems to me that many may have adopted the terms frying pan, fry pan, and pan fry do describe mixed chicks, but from experience, I got 3 pullets from that bin. There is always the possibility that individual stores may add to the already mixed bin, with leftover chicks, but as mine were day olds I doubt it in my case. Just saying, we all worry that our littles may be cockerels, and rightly so, but I wouldn't count on all cockerels just because of the name on the bin. I also feel like if that were the case, feed stores would be obligated to notify customers about the gender specific bin, and if they failed to, and you did end up with 3 boys (I'm assuming the op was after pullets or at least a reasonable mix) I would give them a piece of my mind!!
Good luck OP!

Feed store chicks get mixed up all the time and they might not know themselves what fry pan special is.
Many times the feed store mix leftovers together as well.
But fry pan special does mean left over roosters from egg laying breeds, you get lucky when they mix them up at feed stores or the sexer got it wrong. It is the term all hatcheries use to get the extra boys sold.
Just don't want everyone thinking oh cheep chicks and then they get a bunch of roosters, makes people sad.

I hear ya! I must have just gotten lucky then, but I did sex them in store , so that may have given me a tactical advantage.
Thanks for your help, I'm sure the op appreciates the clarification as well.
