What is a Production Red?

A production strain of RIRed.

I think this mostly depends on the hatchery crosses or the person you ask?

Gets pretty deep sometimes on here.

Theres a couple of threads posted in the past few weeks, if I get some time I'll find them and post them on here.

and it does depends on who you talk too..
Some say that the Production Red is bread solely from the Rhode Island Red just like the New Hamshire. They believe that the more higher productive RIR's were bread to produce the breed.
Others say that it is a RIR with Leghorn blood interoduced. The Leghorn blood being introduced for its high egg productivity to make a higher productive "red" breed.
I am beginning to believe that there is two lines of Production Reds. One being the line bread solely from RIR's and it has a more even color of red much like the Industrial Rhode Island Reds/ Hatchery Rhode Island Reds that we see a lot of.. The other line being a Industrial Rhode Island Reds/ Hatchery Rhode Island Reds with Leghorn blood introduced. Theses birds are the light red blotchy color birds with white feathers in the tail and wings..
You can go http://bloslspoutlryfarm.tripod.com/id29.html to read a nicely writen page By Robert Blosl on the Rhode Island Reds, And there "spin off breeds" like the Production red and the New Hampshire...

That's what I was kind of thinking, so thank you for affirming that! But how can you tell when it's a RIR or when it's a Production Red?
