what is a pullet?

I've seen pullet used alot on here, what exactly is a pullet????

Pullet = A girl chicken typically under the age of one. Though I do hear people calling them pullets until they lay, then they switch to the term Hen.

My pullets got "mouthy" about a week before they started laying. Telling me to get out of their faces. Kinda like telling me, "Chickens only...no men allowed." It was funny and I thought, "What's up with you guys."

Around here (Texas-Oklahoma-Lousianna-Arkansas Border) The term pullet came from The cock fighters. They only wanted more roo's to fight. NO hens... Pullet - short for pull its head off! or cull all hens! I have never done this!!!! I do not agree with or like cock fighting! But being from this area and being around these guys. That is what I was told the term came from PULLET.... Pullets head off! Im sure that this is wrong but it made since to me. Please correct me if I am wrong!
