What is a "Pullet"?

I thought it was a hen that has started laying but not yet had her first moult.

In the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary it says that a pullet is a hen from the time she lays her first egg until her first moult, so perhaps English pullets are different from American ones.

Ohhh... I thought it had something to do with car trade-ins... "Push it, pullet, or carry it in!"

4-H's definition of a pullet is a female chicken who is under a year old, and who has laid eggs for less than 6 mos.
