What is a pullets behavior like before laying first egg?

Quote:
Mine are anxious like nervous hens. They run inside the coop jump to the nest boxes, then they run back out into the run. They have done this for the past few days for several hours a day. And it sounds like they are growling with all the other noises they have been making. And yes, very loud. If I put my hand down to them, 3 are doin the egg squat. I am hoping, by reading the backyard forum, that they will begin to lay in a few weeks. I am as anxious and nervous as they are. Its hard checking that nest box and finding, no egg.

Lord I am like an expectant mother waiting for this first egg! One of my two Buffies has been pacing, running around and going into the coop alone. I listen and I can hear her singing while she is sitting in the nest box. She goes in and out of the coop all day. Sometimes the other 5 hens (virgins all) sit and talk with her then leave for more bug catching. She is just standing in the coop or sitting in the nest frequently throughout the day. Her combs are getting redder. I am a wreck and need a paper bag to breathe into!
