What is a resonable price for processing?

So if I don't want to do the processing myself what is a reasonable rate for someone else to do the processing? I have found 2 local places that charge around $3.50/bird. Is that about the going rate?

Flock number #1, local Amish lady charged $3. That was about 5 years ago.

I have the area to do it myself but I guess I am a wussy lol I have a hard time culling a sick chicken just to put it out of its misery. I do it because its the right thing to do. The quickest way I have found is using my .22 hand gun with a shot to the back of the head. Just something about slicing the neck gives me the heeby jeebies hahaha

Try a killing cone. Keeps the bird contained, can chop the head off easily, and let it bleed out without it getting away from you.

The price around here is $5 for chickens. This facility is FDA certified and inspected. The final product is neatly wrapped just like you get from the grocery store. If you compare prices for organic free range chicken to your homegrown the processing price doesn't seem so bad.
