I didn't know about the tail aspect. What breeds have the pinched tails and what does one look like?

Pinched tails arent a breed-specific trait, it's a physiological defect that works against laying hens. Hobby or registered breeders who conform to a breed's SOP will select against any negative traits that pop up in their flock, so they wouldn't hatch out eggs from hens who displayed those negative traits, but hatcheries have hundreds if not thousands of animals and tend to select for form over function -- animals that look cool but don't necessarily meet the Standard. You can compare a hatchery Rhode Island Red with an RIR that meets the SOP and see quite a difference.

I got one this summer (we went for a small group of fun egg colors this round). She just started laying and is laying a nice silvery mossy green egg, very pretty. I actually came across your post because I was trying to figure out where the blue egg gene came from, since the Google machine says they are just crosses of Plymouth and Blue rocks. Legbar was my guess due to the crest but nobody mentions it in their info Anywho, it's too early to say much, but she's been laying pretty consistently since she started a couple weeks ago and she's a sweet girl

Wondering what age your Sapphire Sky pullets started laying? Mine are 19 weeks and looking pretty mature. Also, do yours have mint green ears? They are pretty bright and it’s bizarre looking! I’ve read it’s normal but just curious. Thanks!

Thank you. So in that case there is probably a pretty good chance the eggs would be brown then? Seems more likely to be brown than green right?

Hello. I got 15 saphire sky's pullets from tsc. Except one is a rooster! So I have 14 hens and a rooster. They have recently started laying. All their eggs are a beautiful dark green to a light greenish blue. Not one has laid a brown egg. Hope thus helps!!

It does help thank you! It’s great to think we may get green eggs! Around what age did they start laying? Mine are just about 21 weeks and no signs yet. Thanks in advance!

For anyone interested that finds this thread, both my Sapphire Sky pullets started laying recently at 22 and 23 weeks and both lay different shades of green!
