Have an old baby scale but its not accurate. so would like recomendation on a very good prob digital scale
. wish I would have bought one when the chickens were chicks....
so I can keep track of their weight etc.....
thanks yall
I use a kitchen produce scale. It's accurate enough for weighing birds live and butchered. Reads to the ounce and up to 11 lbs. Scle is adjustable to tare weight or rezero. Picked mine up for $13 at Walmart. What I like about it is the stainless bowl chickens or produce are weighed on is removable and easily washed. What makes Walmart easy is you can order online and pick up at local store to save shippinng so look around at what they have for kitchen scales.
If use a hanging scale something like fisherman use and for life chickens I'd either tie their legs together and weigh the from the legs or put them in one of the cloth grocery shopping bags and hang that on the scale
My goodness I dont wanna tie them up or put them in a bag....I sure wouldnt want someone doing that to me. My chickens arent just THINGS....
yeah I had a similar kitchen scale years ago but it disppeared....mysteriously.....
wanna try a nice digital evn thoug I like analog for durability..
thanks yall
Putting a chicken in a cloth bag is not going to hurt it or be at all unpleasant it will simply keep the bird from moving about and being a pain in *** to weigh. The bag simply acts as a cradle to hold them more securely. I have weighed live chickens trying to get them to stand on a scale can get frustrating.
What you would or wouldn't want don't to you has no bearing you are a human with the ability to reason and understand things so you don't require any restraint to perform the simple task of being weighed, chickens are another subject.
Some of you people on this forum are simply ridiculous in the way you respond to people who are trying to make suggestions. Do you honestly think anyone is going to suggest a method that is going to injure your chickens? Because you know that's my goal in life is too harm my livestock in the act of working with them.
youre prob right I guess as long as they werent tied up... I know Im not a chicken. But I observe them lots and they do have feelings and wants.. several luv cuddling
yes occ i lightly cover their heads while working with them Found this out accidentaly too
I do listen to suggestions lots...... I just wish I had a chicken interperation guide....
. but I remember when I bought my first 3 chickens at flea mkt. the guy put them in a feed sack. they sure were scared..when they saw that sack later. course silly me was unprepared for chickens, no coop, etc It was a feel sorry and impulse buy. Gave them away 3 days later. to a nice lady who came prepared and raised banties...
wish I never tried it again.dumb me... what a glutton for punishment Hardest thing I ever did....
Later and the second set of chickens I tried again with adults.... That creepo(seller) had six adult chickens in a small cage.... at same flea mkt. I get so mad thinking about it now. They were prob in there for hours,,, prob no water either. I guess, he supposed someone was gonna just buy them and eat....
as chicken raising is causing me to lose sleep and cry myself to sleep over frustration. as they cant tell me what is wrong.
Just wish I could have someone to give them to that would treat them as well as they are treated now... Maybe even buy this whole place ..chicken field, house and all. But cant just give away cause Im concerned several are sick... cant get rid of the runny poo situation for at least two of them
just wish I knew what I know now.....just would pay the high price of pasture raised chicken eggs....
thanks for listening yall
