Because im new to having chickens im reading everything i can about them. But im finding it hard wading through all the various information. Im trying to decide what foid is best for my chickens. Some say the chicken feed you buy at a TSC store, some say make your own as long as it has 30-35% protein. One recipewas combo of soy, wheat, oats and corn .Can anyone suggest what is best . Thank you .

How old are they?
For chicks, use Chick Starter.
For actively laying pullets/hens - you can use layer feed or an all flock/flock raiser feed.
For any age group (chicks, pullets, cockerels, roosters and hens) I prefer a all flock/flock raiser feed.

Poultry grit (crushed granite) and oyster shell offered on the side (free choice).

I fed my day old Rocks a Medicated Start and Grow for 10 weeks. They ground the Crumbles to mash. :D.
Then I switched to a Non-medicated Starter Grower or All-flock/flock Raiser Crumble.
They are currently eating a Non-medicated Starter Grower and the 7 give me around 42 eggs a week. They are 7 months old. GC
ETA; I offer them Oyster Shells separately.
