I want to get something different and I wanted something Thant meets these standards

Something that:
1) does not fly
2) I can put in a open top pen and the hawks and owls will not bother
3) friendly
4) broods often

Does not Fly: All wild waterfowl fly. It is just nature. In order to keep them in an open topped pen you will have to get Pinioned birds or feather clip them each year after they molt, which happens twice per year.

Hawks will not bother in an open topped pen: The hawks will bother any flightless bird in a large pen that is not covered. Keeping some sort of cover, such as a coop, house, or some bushes may help by giving them a place to hide when the hawks do come, but there is always a risk with hawks and uncovered pens.

Friendly: Wild Waterfowl are not friendly in the same respect as domestic waterfowl. They will often be flighty and panic when you enter their pen. Some may come up to your feet or just not be bothered by you, but most will not. Mandarins and Wood ducks tend to be fairly calm int hat respect, but are not cuddly by any regard.

Broods Often: Wood ducks and Mandarins are good brooders. A raised nest box is best and the box should be large and enclosed.

the first three seems to excludes all waterfowl...

I would say Emu or some type of large birds but then again.. It again a big enough hawk or vulture might take a try at it..

That is a tough one.. Good luck! let me us knwo what you figure out to get!

I would love to have some Chiloe Widgeons, but I do not have any closed pens at the time but has anyone ever order a pair from meters hatchery and on the website it says $55 is that for the pair or is it per bird.
