Not going to get into it, but will be rebuilding our little flock (if you will)....and wondering what breed is the best (IYHO) for producing consistent medium to large eggs?

Thanks.

During the beginning of their cycle, their eggs are medium, but after their first several months, it goes up to a nice large size. Much better than my skimpy little Wyandotte eggs.

Although the best so far I'd say are some good Marans eggs. If you want large, they get pretty big!

Also, Easter Eggers are known to lay HUGE eggs, but that doesn't fall under "medium to large"

My Marans eggs are by far my biggest....even when they first start laying.....no pullet eggs from them. My Orps lay a nice size egg. The first year my wyandottes' eggs are medium to large and after their first molt they are almost always large. My Silver laced wyandottes lay the biggest of my three colors of wyandottes.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the hybrids yet, red and black sexlinks. They seem to be pretty easy to keep, don't eat much, and lay eggs every day...consistently.

I love the variety of my mixed flock, but for egg production the sex links have it hands down. They aren't the most flashy looking birds, though I do think they're pretty, but they lay early, consistantly, and are sweet natured easy keepers too.

Cool...thanks for the replies and suggestions. Are any of those mentioned adversely affected by pretty warm humid summers? The Foothills of Western North Carolina can get hot and sticky in the summer. I figure since some of you and your suggestions were from northern climes, the cold was not much of an issue.

Thanks again.
